Pumpkin-Chocolate Cookie Sandwiches
When a friend mentioned eating some out-of-this-world pumpkin and chocolate chip muffins, it struck me that I’d never baked with that particular combination of flavors before. After some internal head-shaking and tsk-tsk-ing, I put my apron on and started working. I decided to experiment with cookie recipes because I hadn’t seen that many good ones out there, at least not for the kind of chewy and dense cookie I imagined. Saffron-Garlic Rice with Tempeh Bacon
Rice and peas are pure comfort food to me, more so even than pasta. I know that’s hard to believe, but it’s true. Maybe it’s because my mom cooked peas a lot when I was growing up. She cooked them very well, too, in a delicious tomato sauce (whose secret ingredient, I found out years later, was a couple tablespoonfuls of sugar!). So I’ve always loved peas. Crazy Bread
My husband has taken to giving me baking challenges. I have to admire his timing. Just when the tedium of kitchen work begins to bring me down, he comes up to me and asks me if I think I can replicate this or that dessert from his childhood, or a favorite dinner he ate at university.
